An original animated world · In development

Nest County

A hundred hungry snakes. One very nervous blue jay. The biggest egg hunt in snake history.

An original animated feature, now seeking executive producers, studios and creative collaborators to take it from the page to the screen.

Nest County by Rudy Ibarra: three young birds with binoculars in a nest while a snake watches from below
SINCE 1985Forty years in the making

The logline

When a migration of starving snakes slithers toward Nest County to reclaim their ancestral Caverns before the rainy season, Fleo, a blue jay interceptor who loses feathers at the mere mention of a hawk, must warn a perfectly organized bird town before the egg hunt begins.

The world

Fifty thousand flops from anywhere.

The humans are long gone, and the birds have built something remarkable in their absence: skyscraper trees in The Woods, air-traffic control from the highest branch in Tower Square, interceptors who welcome visitors or chase them away, and a gossip hub on the telephone wires at Nest County Road and Las Huevas Boulevard. Eat at the Hungry Eagle, stay at the Tree Top, and bring seeds: they are the only currency accepted.

The Tower

Four cardinals watch north, south, east and west. One blue jay gets sent to say hello.

The Tower

The highest branch in Tower Square spots bad weather and incoming flights. Air Marshal Landy dispatches Fleo, the interceptor, to welcome visitors or chase them away.

Flops, Curls & Seeds

Birds measure distance in flops and pay in seeds.

Flops, Curls & Seeds

Snakes measure distance in curls and don’t pay. They take. Two species, two economies, zero agreement on how far anything is.

The Caverns

The snakes’ old hunting grounds, until the humans drove them out.

The Caverns

Sneako wants them back before the rainy season, and he’s bringing a hundred hungry snakes for the biggest egg hunt in snake history.

The characters

Feathers, fangs and the
occasional practical joke.

Also on the wire: Uncle Jayson & Flappy, the storyteller and his wide-eyed nephew · Easberd, the eagle-eyed cardinal · Gullie, the seagull with insurance concerns · Clawdio · Tummy & Tailor, the grumbling back row.

Why animation, why now

It was always meant to move.

THE COMPTop Gun with feathers meets Chicken Run

The lineage

Forty years in development.
Most studios call that pre-production.

  1. 1985

Begins as a comic strip, drawn for national syndication with the screen already in mind.

  2. 2004

The strip becomes the book Nest County, available now on Amazon ↗

  3. Now

Book two is being written, so the world keeps growing.

  4. Next

An animated feature film, followed by an animated series.

Rudy Ibarra, creator of Nest County

The creator

One creator. Several
unreasonable skill sets.

  • Inventor of BackPage, US Patent 6,539,406 (2003): every web page deserves a back side
  • Composer of Latin jazz and electronic music, so Nest County comes with a composer attached
  • Digital painter and screenwriter (Small Big Deal)
  • Software engineer by trade, from Miami

He can build the world, score it and ship it on schedule.

The ask

The nest is built.
Now we need the flock.

I’m looking for collaborators to bring Nest County to the screen, starting with an animated feature film and continuing as a series. Wing by and land for a while.
